This is a guide on how to use the UCentric Dashboard including how to add, configure and edit all widgets.

Accessing the dashboard

  1. Selected Dashboard. This will be the current dashboard name, and a dropdown arrow that allows you to select other saved dashboards. This can be used to view different dashboards or those that are grouped together with transitions.

  2. Mode Selector. This is a pencil icon and will show either the text Free Mode or Grid Mode. Free Mode allows full freedom of movement when placing widgets on the dashboard. Grip Mode will assist in widgets ‘snapping’ in place to great a more ordered look. The modes can be switched between freely at any time.

  3. Locked/Unlocked. This is a padlock icon and text of the current status of the dashboard. Unlocked allows editing of the dashboard and moving widgets, whereas locked will ensure that widgets remain in place.

  4. Add Widget. This is the main button to use when creating a dashboard. Along with the button pictured at the centre of the screen, clicking this opens a list of the available widgets that can be added. These will be touched upon later in the article.

  5. Settings. This button is the picture of a person, followed by the name of the user currently logged in. Clicking on this opens a menu filled with settings to do with the dashboard.

Widgets

Below are a list of the widgets that can be added and viewed on the dashboard. At first these need to be added via clicking on the Add Widget button.

Clock

The clock widget can be used to add more variety in the amount of information presented than just statistics. This widget can be configured to display in either 12 or 24 hour format. And the date and day labels can be switched on or off. For any multinational requirements, the widget can be set to use a specific time zone, allowing for multiple clock widgets to be used for different places.

Dashboard Meter

Database Viewer

The database viewer is a widget that can display the results of a SQL query that you define. in the expample of the image above the query is simply returning values from a Logs table within the database. You are able to define the database, the query and smaller details to shape how the data is presented.

Selecting how many rows are displayed and also defining a threshold. So that depending on the query, the results could be measured and perhaps display a warning if they are not as desired. Or opposite could highlight success if the value is perhaps high.

Highways England Cameras

This widget allows you to pick from a vast array of highways that are monitored by Highways England. You can filter through this large list and get the desired camera. Multiple widgets can be used to display multiple cameras.

JamCams

The JamCams widget uses feeds from Transport For London, cameras in key locations that show how traffic is flowing in certain areas. You are able to select a location from the drop down menu.

The widget pictured above can plug into a Jira Service Management setup and pull requested information in the form of filters.

Jira Ticket Summary

Label

The label widget is a simple text box that can be used to contain any type of custom title, label or sentence. Colours and font size are configurable. Furthermore you can expand on the functionality and add images in the box.

License Status

This simple widget pulls the licensing information of the UCentric installation. Providing the serial number to quote to MIT if required.

London TfL Train Schedules

Using data provided by Transport For London, this widget displays a table of information on the recent activity at the station of your choosing.

Using data provided by National Rail, this widget displays a table of information on the upcoming arrivals/departures at the station of your choosing. You must pick whether you wish for the widget to display arrivals or departures.

Ping

This is a lightweight widget that allows configuration of ping commands. Multiple can be set up within one widget, to allow monitoring of the connection status of systems and websites.

This widget allows the setting up of RSS feeds. You may configure one per widget by supplying the correct URL.

This widgets draws upon information provided by the UK Hydrographic Office to display data based on the location that you choose. There is a list to pick from, such as in the above example is set to Southend-On-Sea.

The Usage Mapping widget allows for a 3D floor plan to be used from the web interface, and can plot multiple different data sources on the plan itself. Such as usage statistics, which can be edited and configured.

The weather widget allows you to pinpoint your location on Google Maps and displays weather information accordingly. It can be set to display Simple as pictured above, or show a 7 day forecast. You can also tailor the temperature measurement of Celsius or Fahrenheit.

Web Page Viewer

The Web Page Viewer widget is a frame, this allows a webpage to be displayed within the web interface. You are able to configure the URL of any website or any direct page.

Adding A Widget

Adding a widget can be achieved in two ways, the first is only available on new and blank dashboards. In the centre of the screen there is the button to Add Widget. Alternatively, there is always the Add Widget button on the navigation pane as mention in the above section.

Clicking either button will present the screen above. Showing the vast array of available widgets, you can scroll through the list or use a filter to search. Using sub groups such as UCentric to find reporting widgets, or by searching for the exact name.

The screen above is an example of the configuration pane. These will be different depending on the widget in question, but can be accessed by clicking on the Cog icon in the top right of any widget when you hover over them.

This allows you to do basic jobs, such as Refresh, Duplicate and Rename the widget. And more advanced options related to the specific widget, such as selecting the search parameters to display. More information on each widget can be found here: UCentric Dashboard Widgets
